Construction Info

Current Phase: Construction to Begin Starting July 13th (Liberty Utilities)

  • Liberty Utilities will begin replacing approximately 800 feet of older steel gas mains on July 13th, starting on the west side of Central Square. Traffic flow will be impacted by lane shifts, however, at least one lane will remain open. The West Street slip lane will be closed for a few days at a time, and Central Square parking spaces adjacent to the sidewalk between Court Street and West Street will be unavailable during construction hours (typically 7AM to 5PM). Parking spaces in the North and East areas of Central Square will remain available, as well as public parking spaces in lots such as the Elm Lot, Commercial St. Lot, and Gilbo East Lot.
  • Casella Construction will soon begin staging materials and equipment in the vacant gravel lot on Gilbo Avenue in preparation for construction, scheduled to begin on July 27th.

Helpful Information

  • Project Phasing Plan – 2026, 2027, and 2028
  • Design Visualization – an interactive visual aid showing design info
  • Traffic – at least one lane in each direction will be maintained throughout the construction area. When detours are necessary, that info will be posted here.
  • Parking Guide – Parking spaces will remain open throughout construction except when they are actively under construction. The public parking lots on Gilbo Ave. and Commercial St. are the best parking options as close to downtown businesses as many of the on-street parking spaces, and the time limits are longer and the fees are lower.
