A Heat Advisory will be in effect for our area Friday, July 25th, from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM. Expect hot conditions, with heat index values that could reach 100 degrees. These conditions pose a risk for heat-related illnesses, making it crucial for everyone to prepare and take precautions.

To help protect yourself and others in the community, we urge you to:

Prioritize Hydration: Drink plenty of fluids throughout the day, even if you do not feel thirsty. Avoid drinks high in sugar, sodium, caffeine, or alcohol.
Seek Air-Conditioned Environments: Seek air-conditioned spaces. If you do not have access to air conditioning at home The Keene Public Library at 60 Winter Street and the Keene Family YMCA (which opens its lobby to the public during extreme weather events) are available during their normal operating hours. Our City pools are also open.
Limit Outdoor Activity: Reduce or reschedule strenuous outdoor activities. If you must be outdoors, try to do so during the coolest parts of the day and take frequent breaks in the shade.
Check on Others: It is especially important during hot weather to check on friends, family, and neighbors, particularly the elderly, young children, and those with pre-existing health conditions, who may be more vulnerable and need assistance. A quick call or visit can make a significant difference.
Never Leave Children or Pets Unattended in Vehicles: The interior of a vehicle can reach life-threatening temperatures within minutes, even on a seemingly mild day.
Understanding the signs of heat-related illness, such as heat exhaustion and heat stroke, is vital. For more detailed information on staying safe in hot weather and recognizing these signs, please visit our Storm Preparedness page on the City of Keene website. You can also monitor the latest weather forecasts at Weather.gov/gray.

Your safety and the well-being of our community are our top priorities. By preparing for these conditions and looking out for one another, we can help everyone stay safe during this period of hot weather.
